Belen is a riverine community in Iquitos close to where we were staying. We first visited the Belen market where almost every type of produce imaginable is sold. From chicken to monkeys, cashews, love potion you name it. The only thing to be wary of is pickpockets but as long as you keep your belongings secure you'll be fine!

After seeing the Belen market we went to the riverside where we got into boats and explored the community. The houses on the river would have balsa wood underneath them to keep them afloat whereas the houses on the riverbank were elevated for the rainy season.
